The Easiest Slow Cooked Beef Recipe Ever

Admit it.

You love easy recipes that never fail to impress.

You enjoy it when your loved ones go crazy about your cooked masterpiece, asking you how you created such a magnificent dish, while you can only laugh and say it’s not a big deal!

Sound familiar? Well, here it is….You found it!

Slow cooked beef flank with its tender texture will melt in the mouth, letting the fantastic flavour quickly take over all your taste buds. This dish is easy to prepare, yet it can make almost anyone look like an amazing chef.

There are numerous things that I love about it, some of which I’ll share with you here:

WHY USE A SLOW COOKER FOR BEEF?

First of all, you can achieve an amazing taste using only a few ingredients. Everything you need is cheap, easy to find and easy to cook, even for novices. It all adds up to an incredible result that is more than the sum of its parts. The total time that you will spend cooking, is in the range of a few minutes (ha!). Your slow cooker will do the rest of the work for you.

And then there is the resulting meat.  And it’s impossible to describe the tenderness of beef cooked using a slow cooker. It will simply melt in your mouth, making you become quite aware of just how poorly cooked many other meat dishes are. After tasting this recipe, it will be hard to go back to anything else.

There is a reason this became a family favourite in my case, something that I am sure is bound to happen to you too after you try the recipe. You can simply spend a few minutes preparing the ingredients, put everything in the slow cooker and end up with a dish that tastes as if it came right from a 5-star restaurant. Take a look for yourself and see just how simple this is to make:

INGREDIENTS:

  • Beef flank (500 g)
  • Dill
  • 1 onion
  • 2-3 carrots
  • Sea salt
  • Garlic powder
  • Black pepper
  • Thyme
  • Beef stock or even water to cover the vegetables and meat

INSTRUCTIONS:

  1. The meat should be fresh and properly washed. Cut it into small squares and rub as much dill on top as you like. Add spices and salt.

  1. Chop the vegetables. Nothing too special here, keep to the same sizes you would normally use for a salad. Personally, I like medium sized slices as I feel that this is what allows me to experience their taste the best. Here is how they look when I chop them:

  1. Mix the meat and vegetables properly in your cooker. Since they will cook slowly, each ingredient will absorb the flavour of everything else, creating culinary magic that is impossible to describe in simple words. Make sure they are well spread out and mixed in order to get the maximum effect. Do not keep the meat on one side and the vegetables on the other, as you won’t maximise the taste possibilities.

  1. Add either beef stock or water to cover the vegetables and meat. Personally, I use beef stock most of the time, as I find that it adds the best possible flavour. No matter which of these you choose, the liquid will serve to create that tenderness that you will keep looking for in all other meat dishes.

  1. Turn the slow cooker on and keep it on LOW for 8 hours. Yes, that means it will take a while, as you would expect. But the result is worth the wait (and not that big of an inconvenience when you think about it).

The total time you actually spend preparing the ingredients, is less than 10 minutes. After that, it is just a matter of placing everything in the cooker, leaving it to do its job and going about your day. In the evening, you will end up having a fantastic dinner.

Give this dish a try and you will see that it totally lives up to the hype. I haven’t met anyone who didn’t want the recipe after tasting it.
